I first found out about the BOLD Study on my trip to the Pennsylvania Farm Show. PennAg Industries gave myself and local bloggers the opportunity to come to the event and check out their new exhibit this year. {you can read more about that trip here} We started with the beef cows where we were introduced to the Beef Ambassadors! {Never heard of them? Either had I} Well anyways that’s not the point. They told us about the BOLD Study. {beef in an optimal lean diet}

The Bold Study was completed by Penn State University {seems right huh? PA!} The survey found that consuming lean beef daily as part of a heart-healthy diet lowered LDL “bad” cholesterol by 10 percent. This surprised me when I first heard about it. I mean that changes everything I ever thought before. I always thought “meat=bad” I mean okay not bad but I would never eat it EVERYDAY! I mean that is just craziness and I would gain all this weight and blah blah blah but now this survey might just change my mind {oh and the Paleo lifestyle!}
Some fun facts about lean meats:
There are 29 lean beef meats.
On average, a 3oz serving of lean beef is about 150 calories.
Lean meats have 10 grams of fat or less.
Beef is an excellent source of nutrients, including protein, zinc, vitamin b12, vitamin b6 and niacin.
Lean meats have the words tender or round in the name.
On a website I found they gave me a snapshot of what a day of meals should look like including MEAT!

There is also a book!

They have a good amount of the recipes from the book here. So go click on some of them and make some MEAT for dinner!
Questions: What do you think about eating meat everyday? Did you know about the BOLD study?

Everything is good in moderation and to enjoyment. Eating only beef for health is about as exciting as eating only carrots for health. I think food is meant to be enjoyed in it’s diversity! That being said, I end up eating more vegetable based diet because it’s easier and cheaper to buy hormone free vegetables than hormone free beef. I’m not antibeef but I am anti-hormones, and chemicals.
Interesting! I don’t eat red meat for dietary reasons, but I’ve never shied away from it because of nutritional aspects. I definitely believe that lean meats have a TON of healthy benefits.
What a very intriguing post!! Loved learning about B.O.L.D
I eat a lot of lean beef, I could never be a vegetarian. I’m happy to see some councils stepping up their marketing efforts to show the positive effects of their products! I was hoping to see some cow photos though… I’m an old farm girl.
I’m so happy you took the time to look into the BOLD diet. I thought they said BULL and I couldn’t find anything about it! Wonder why…haha
