The second session I went to was Design Boot Camp. Definitely a class I still have to implement to my blog. Julie from SavvyEats was the session leader. She does some awesome designs if you are interested.
She started by telling us about some things that you MUST HAVE on your blog.
1. Search bar ![]()
2. Contact Information
3. About Me Page
4. Subscription Option
If you are looking some inspiration you could start a pinterest design board.
You can also use snapito which allows you to pin an entire page.
If you are looking for color scheme ideas there are a few websites that can help: Colour Lovers, Design Seeds, and Creature Comforts Blog.
If you are looking for specific colors you need to have a Hex which is a 6 digit number that goes to each color. There are a few websites that can help you with that too: Color Explorer and CSS Drive. There are also some websites that you can find that when you show a picture on your browser they can tell you the colors involved.
If you are looking for fonts here are some websites: Da Font and Font Squirrel.
If you are looking to buy some new themes wordpress has some or you can turn to DIY Themes and Woo Themes.
If you are looking for some extra blogging help visit Health Blog Helper.
I know I gave you a lot of links but they all are very helpful! I find the whole theme and header situation probably the hardest when it comes to blogging!
Question: If you have changed your theme or header how did you do it?

Thanks for the tips! I was bummed I was not able to attend, so it’s nice to hear advice from the weekend. Plus, I’m in the process of refining the site so these are very helpful. Good luck with yours!

So good of you to share these tips!
I actually had Julie do my current design, which I love!
Thanks for sharing all the great tips. I’ll be checking out those links. Next time I change my theme I want to switch to thesis. I’ve done all my own design and I’m a little afraid now to mess with what I have.
After reading this post last night, I was up til 1am on Health Blog Helper reading archived posts. So much great information!
Thanks for recapping this session – so awesome, since I wasn’t able to attend! Still sad we didn’t get to meet
next year!!
