What I Really Ate Wednesday: Recipe

in Recipes, What I Ate Wednesday

Since I have moved back in with my mom we have been splitting the cooking duties! Which is great! She makes the good home cooked meals I make the more healthy meals. Eric and her always joke that for the one healthy meal I make she’ll raise me a non-healthy one. haha. Well anyways today was my day to cook and what I wanted to make: Spaghetti Squash. I haven’t had this in a long time. Probably because I always thought it was so hard to cut that it wasn’t worth my time and effort… but boy oh boy do I have something to show you: You don’t need to cut it in half BEFORE you cook it! Ready?

First things first you get your Spaghetti Squash out of wherever you keep it.
12 - 1 (1)
Next, take a knife and poke holes in it for the steam.
12 - 2
Put it on a cookie sheet and stick it in the oven. 375 degrees for 1 hour.
12 - 312 - 4
Once it is done you take it out and cut it in half. {Which it is so much easier to do when it is cooked to cut it!
12 - 512 - 6
Dig out the seeds and then the fun starts.
12 - 712 - 8
Take a fork and start making the “noodles” by kind of carving out the squash. You can put it in a container or in a bowl or wherever and you got yourself some spaghetti! So neat huh?
12 - 9
Seriously I have made this a couple times now and this was by far the easiest way. The only thing I would’ve changed was probably left it in a little longer {that is one of the downfalls since its not cut in half you don’t know how well it is cooked} I’m also very impatient so if I would’ve let it cook for the whole hour {whoops} it probably would’ve been more finished. It is still delicious though and I’m happy I don’t have to cut the dumb squash in half when its really hard anymore! (:

Questions: Do you eat Spaghetti Squash? Do you always cut it before you bake it? or Have you tried it this way before and baking it before cutting?

I’ve had spaghetti squash at restaurants and loved it, but I’ve been doing it at home. Now that I saw how easy it is, I”m totally going to try it!

I’ve seen this before… it always looks so good (and fun) to make. Gonna have to give it a try.

Or can I just place my to-go order through here?

I made my boyfriend cut it in half haha. I tried to stick the knife in it and laughed at myself, and passed it on to the man. Will definitely just have to stick it in the oven whole next time. Thanks!

I cut it before I bake it but it feels like the most dangerous thing ever.

I have been making spaghetti squash for years and have always made it in the microwave. Wash it, pierce it then pop into the microwave for about 10 min. Let it set for about 15 minutes and it will get soft. If it doesn’t appear to be soft enough cook it another 5 minutes. Let it set a bit then cut. I’ve never put sauce on it, I put fresh Parmesan cheese and salt n pepper. It is delish even Jim likes it.

I love spaghetti squash! I’ve never tried baking it whole like this though. I usually microwave it for 3-4 minutes, then cut it in half, then bake it. Next time I’m going to try doing it your way though! It sounds much easier. :D

Putting it in the microwave for a little is smart too! Never would’ve thought of that!

I love spaghetti squash!! I’m the only one in our house that likes it so I don’t make it very often.

Ooh, interesting! I love spaghetti squash, but I always cut it because I tend to put a little garlic and sometimes other seasonings on the pan below the pit where the seeds were so that the seasonings roast and impart flavor into the squash. I’ll definitely have to try it this way though.

You could always just put it in for a little bit and then cut it in half. that would definitely make it easier to cut and you can put a little garlic with it! (:
